Lookout launched on Tuesday a new app for Android devices with a slew of smart features — from protecting against dialer-based attacks to an activity log of threats you encounter.
But perhaps the most compelling is its Signal Flare feature, which automatically flags the last location of a phone when its battery starts to die.
But perhaps the most compelling is its Signal Flare feature, which automatically flags the last location of a phone when its battery starts to die.
Lookout — who launched its first app in 2009 and boasts more than 25 million users worldwide — locates thousands of phones each day, but when devices can’t be found, it’s often the dead battery to blame. According to the company, about 30% of those who can’t locate their lost or stolen phone say the battery died in the meantime.
Now the app logs the location of the phone right as the battery dies, which will increase your chances of finding it.
The app still protects mobile phones from threats such as malware and spyware and backs up personal data, but the interface is far more intuitive and streamlined than before. It features an activity feed dashboard that displays the ways Lookout is protecting you, so you will be notified of threats, app download history, data backups and security notifications.
The app also features Safe Dialer protection against dialer-based attacks. It scans every phone number you click to call from your mobile browser and alerts you if dialing the number might be dangerous, such as wiping your device without permission.
The company said it aims to roll out a similar redesigned app for iOS devices in the near future.
